The week

Fri 18Depart

Wheels up from Toronto

Evening departure. Eat before the airport, sleep on the plane — landing at ~7am UK time hits different when you didn't.

Sat 19Arrive

Drive north & the Kingdom Hall

Land 11:50, Green Motion shuttle to the 13:30 pickup (decline desk cover — already insured; video every panel), then M25 → M40 → M6 with minimal stops — there's somewhere to be tonight. Today's driver slept on the plane and drinks nothing until parked; left side of the road, at least it's an automatic. Arrive ~17:30, bottle in hand, quick change into the smart-casual clothes packed at the top of the bags, then the service talk at the local Kingdom Hall with the mate (confirm the exact meeting time before you fly — ~18:00 means zero slack, ~19:00 is comfortable). Late supper — on the mate — and an early night.

Sun 20North

Lazy Liverpool morning, City on the screens

Slow breakfast, then the Royal Albert Dock and waterfront with a local guide — no schedule pressure free. Drive the M62 (~50 min) with an Etihad exterior photo stop on the way in, park central, and watch Man City v Sunderland (14:00, Sky) at BOX Deansgate — wall of screens, food table booked ✓ for 13:30. Full-time, then Sejlo's — an old mate in Manchester — for a visit and dinner at his free — confirm his address and that he's cooking for three. Drive back to Liverpool ~20:15, nightcap, bed.

Mon 21Two cities

Middlesbrough friend, Roseberry Topping, then Birmingham

Out by 9:00 for the ~2.5h drive to Middlesbrough: the friend's home (80 Elmwood, TS8 0SS), her shop (22 King's Road, TS3 6NF), two hours together and lunch on her free — bring a small something. Then Roseberry Topping, 15 min away at the edge of the North York Moors — ~90 min up and down, huge views, the countryside fix upgraded from Cannock Chase. Drive south ~3h to mate #2's in Birmingham by ~18:45: they're cooking dinner, then pints with history at the Bartons Arms (Aston, 1901) or the Old Crown, Digbeth (~1368). Free night three, second bottle in hand.

Tue 22Icons

Birmingham → drop the car → Westminster PM

Fill the tank in Birmingham (rentals return full), ~10:00 drive M40 → M25 (~2–2.5h, the shortest driving day), and drop the car at Green Motion for the 13:30 return — video every panel again, then their shuttle back to the terminal. Elizabeth line from Heathrow (change at Whitechapel) out to the Best Western Ilford (~1h15), check in ~15:15. Late afternoon: Buckingham Palace gates → St James's Park → Big Ben outside → Westminster Bridge at dusk free (National Gallery moves to Friday). Then the designated Spoons night: the Moon Under Water, Charing Cross Road — burger + pint ~£9.

Wed 23Football

Emirates Stadium tour — the centerpiece

Tube to Holloway Road for the Emirates Stadium tour — BOOKED ✓ (~£35, includes the Arsenal Museum): dressing rooms, players' tunnel, pitchside, directors' box. Walk over to the old Highbury stadium (now flats, but the Art Deco East Stand facade survives) and get lunch on Upper Street, Islington. Then home-ward for the recovery hour: a 60-min massage at Serenity Ilford (The Mall, next to the hotel, 4.9★ — ~£45–55 via Treatwell, 18:00; they close at 19:00), then supper at Enish, High Road Ilford — proper Nigerian minutes from the hotel: jollof, pounded yam & egusi, suya (~£22, 19:15 sitting) — and straight to sleep.

Thu 24Old London

Tower, Horse Guards & Shoreditch

Tower of London from the wharf and a quick Tower Bridge walk, then the District line to Westminster for the 11:00 Changing of the King's Life Guard at Horse Guards Parade — mounted Household Cavalry, runs daily (the Buckingham foot-guard days all clash with booked tours). Stroll the Mall to Buckingham Palace for the daylight look, Borough Market lunch, then Shoreditch: street art, Brick Lane, Old Spitalfields, and the trip's big London night out.

Fri 25Last day

Bethel tour, city loop & the farewell crawl

Smart-casual morning: Elizabeth line to Stratford, Greater Anglia to Chelmsford (~45 min, ~£12 return), taxi 15 min to the site, and the UK Bethel tour, 10:00–12:00 free — BOOKED. Back at Liverpool Street ~13:40, ten-minute walk to Fenchurch Street for the booked Sky Garden slot at 14:15 free — bring photo ID, then the city loop — St Paul's (outside) → Millennium Bridge → quick Tate Modern free → souvenirs — pack before going out, and crawl 3–4 historic pubs: Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, the Blackfriar, one Sam Smith's.

Sat 26Home

Fly back to Toronto — noon departure

Early included breakfast (or take it to go), out by 7:15 — Ilford is the far side of town. Elizabeth line, change at Whitechapel for the Heathrow branch (~1h15), bags dropped by 9:10, inside the 3-hour window for the 12:00 flight. Land Toronto mid-afternoon the same day.
